ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING
The painting shows a Junkers Ju88A-1 while the Spitfire Mk I K9953 / ZP-A was actually flown by South African pilot Adolf ‘Sailor’ Malan with 74 Squadron. They were based at Hornchurch in May/June 1940, in the early stages of the Battle of Britain, being withdrawn to Wittering in August for a short rest before moving to Kirton-in-Lindsey, Coltishall and then in October back to the front line at Biggin Hill.
